En buena parte de países del mundo, el número 10 tiene un significado especial y suele utilizarse para conmemorar acontecimientos, fechas señaladas o lo que uno tenga a bien celebrar. En mi caso, cuando empezó la aventura de Música sin cuarentena (Music Without Quarantine) hace cuatro meses, jamás hubiera pensado que la andadura me llevase tan lejos. Diez fueron también los conciertos que dimos durante el confinamiento de 2020 en Música sin cuarentena. Durante aquellos meses en los que participaron más de 30 músicos de 12 países distintos, esos recitales digitales en directo que ofrecimos trajeron alegría y esperanza a muchas personas que se conectaban todas las semanas, los miércoles a las 19:00 CET. A todos ellos, músicos y público, gracias. La aventura de Música sin cuarentena no hubiera sido posible sin el entusiasmo y empeño del violinista Mikhail Pochekin, a quien siempre estaré agradecido por ello.

Más tarde, cuando la serie de conciertos semanales terminaron, comenzamos con una serie de «cafés virtuales» pertenecientes a la serie de entrevistas «Un café con…». Tampoco nadie hubiera dicho que llegaríamos hasta este punto. Por aquí han pasado hasta la fecha 10 personalidades del mundo de la música: el maestro de coro y director de orquesta Marco Antonio García de Paz, el crítico musical Arturo Reverter, el acordeonista Iñaki Alberdi, el compositor y crítico musical Robert Hugill, el cantante bajo y laudista Joel Frederiksen, el director de orquesta Cristóbal Soler, la agente artística Andreea Butucariu, el musicólogo y cornetista Bruce Dickey, la directora de orquesta Mei-Ann Chen y Hugo Sanches, musicólogo y director del conjunto O bando de surunyo. A todos ellos les expreso mi más sincero agradecimiento, porque de todos ellos he aprendido algo y, sobre todo, porque he disfrutado mucho nuestras conversaciones de café.

Ignoro por cuánto tiempo más seguirán estos aromáticos «cafés virtuales». Y tampoco sé hasta dónde llegaré con esta aventura. Mi intención es hablar de música y dar a conocer a los artistas de un modo más desenfadado, aunque no por ello menos riguroso. Supongo que llegaré a los confines hasta los cuales me lleven esa intención mía y el cariño de quienes me apoyen en el camino…

In many countries in the world, number 10 —lighten up, my dear British friends, I’m not talking about Downing Street— has a special meaning and people use it to commemorate events, significant anniversaries or whatever they wish to celebrate. In my case, when Music Without Quarantine adventure took flight four months ago, I couldn’t have ever imagined that I could go that far. It was also ten live stream concerts that we offered on Music Without Quarantine during the 2020 lockdown. Over those months, more than 30 musicians from 12 different countries took part in our live recitals bringing joy and hope to many people who would connect weekly, every Wednesday at 19:00 CET. To all of them, musicians and the audience, my deepest gratefulness. The Music Without Quarantine adventure wouldn’t have been possible without the enthusiasm and driving force of my friend and great violinist Mikhail Pochekin, and I’ll always thank him for that.

Then, when the series of weekly concerts was called to an end, we started with a series of «virtual coffees» entitled «A Coffee With…». No-one either would have said that we could reach out that far. So far, my guests have been 10 personalities of the music world: the choir master & orchestra conductor Marco Antonio García de Paz, the music critic Arturo Reverter, the accordionist Iñaki Alberdi, the composer & music critic Robert Hugill, the bass singer & lutenist Joel Frederiksen, the orchestra conductor Cristóbal Soler, the music & artist agent Andreea Butucariu, the musicologist & cornetto player Bruce Dickey, the orchestra conductor Mei-Ann Chen and Hugo Sanches, musicologist & director of the early music ensemble O bando de surunyo. To all of them, my sincerest gratitude. I learnt a lot from them and, above all, I really enjoyed our conversations over coffee.
