Tenemos un montón de emocionantes noticias que contaros… y comenzaré por la más próxima en el tiempo.
¡Rachel es una de los cinco finalistas del concurso de jazz para estudiantes del festival de música de Ventura! Quizás recordéis que el año pasado también fue finalista y que le dieron el segundo premio. Este año, el concurso en directo será ESTE DOMINGO POR LA TARDE. Sí, sé que no os hemos avisado con mucho tiempo de antelación, pero si podéis venir y animarla, estaríamos encantadas de veros allí.

Laurel Theatre (Rubicon), 1006 East Main Street, Ventura 93001 (California, USA)
Cada uno de los cinco finalistas interpretará una canción acompañados por la banda Coda. Al final del concierto se anunciará quién ha sido el ganador. El primer premio es una beca de 5.000 dólares y el ganador tendrá la oportunidad de tocar con Arturo Sandoval el próximo 12 de febrero. ¡Estupendo!
Al entrar al teatro, os pedirán una donación de 10 dólares y los ingresos irán al fondo de educación del festival de música de Ventura (Ventura Music Festival Education Fund), así que estaréís apoyando una causa noble así como también a Rachel.

Más noticias emocionantes: Rachel ha sido seleccionada como semifinalista en los premios «Spotlight» (Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Awards) en la categoría de jazz instrumental. A fin de preparar las audiciones para la semifinal que se celebra el día 26 de febrero, Rachel asistirá a una clase magistral con el pianista de jazz Alan Pasqua, presidente de los Estudios de Jazz en la USC y un afamado intérprete. dentro de un par de semanas. ¡Los ganadores recibirán unas cuantiosas becas y tocarán en un concierto de gala en el Dorothy Chandler Pavilion! Os mantendremos informados según se desarrollen los acontecimientos.
Rachel es muy afortunada de poder contar con una fantástica sección rítmica para las audiciones «Spotlight» con Paul Tavenner a la batería y Dr. Matt Van Benschoten al bajo. Las dos obras que Rachel interpretó con Paul y Dr. Matt para las audiciones fueron Dolphin Dance y Captain Jon. Ambas se encuentran en mi canal de Youtube, pero interpretadas al piano solo. Con suerte, pronto escucharéis a Rachel tocando con acompañamiento.

Y por si fuera poco, Rachel tiene varias audiciones para flauta en la Asociación de Maestros de Música de California (Music Teachers Association of California). Este año, Rachel tendrá una audición en VOCE (Voice, Orchestral instruments, Chamber groups, Ensembles), en Certificate of Merit Panels y en Young Artist Guild. Os daré más información sobre estos acontecimientos pronto, pues las fechas se acercan rápidamente.
Una cosa es segura: ¡Rachel Flowers nunca se aburre!

Hello Friends and Fans of Rachel Flowers!
We have lots of very exciting news to report – and I’ll begin with the most time sensitive.
Rachel is one of the top five finalists in the 2011 Ventura Music Festival Student Jazz Competition! You may recall she was a finalist last year as well and was awarded second place. This year the live competition is taking place THIS SUNDAY AFTERNOON! Yes, we had very little notice on this! But if you can come out and cheer her on, we would love to see you there!

3:00 PM LIVE COMPETITION

Each of the five finalists will perform one song, backed up by the band Coda. The winner will be announced at the end of the concert. The top prize winner will receive a $5000 scholarship, and will have the opportunity to perform with Arturo Sandoval on February 12. Pretty great stuff!
They are requesting a $10 donation at the door, and all proceeds go toward the Ventura Music Festival Education Fund, so you would be supporting a worthy cause as well as supporting Rachel.

More exciting news – Rachel has been selected as a Semi-Finalist in the Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Awards, in the Jazz Instrumental category. In a couple of weeks she will attend a Master Class with jazz pianist Alan Pasqua, chair of Jazz Studies at USC and a celebrated performer in his own right, to help prepare for the semi-final auditions which will take place on February 26. The winners receive substantial scholarship awards, and will perform in a gala concert at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion! We will keep you informed as events unfold.
Rachel is very fortunate to have a fantastic rhythm section for the Spotlight auditions in Paul Tavenner on drums and Dr. Matt Van Benschoten on bass. The two pieces she performed with Paul and Dr. Matt for her live audition were Dolphin Dance and Captain Jon, both of which can be found on my youtube channel, but as solo piano performances. Hopefully soon you will hear her play these with back-up!

On top of all that, Rachel has several exciting flute auditions coming up through the Music Teachers Association of California. Rachel will be auditioning for VOCE (Voice, Orchestral instruments, Chamber groups, Ensembles), for Certificate of Merit Panels, and for the Young Artist Guild this year. I will be sending more information on these events soon, as the dates are coming up fast!
